Training

One of the cornerstones of the firm's recent successes is the quality of our training. An excellent training programme is fundamental to the firm's goal of becoming the best law firm to work for. The training we offer is also part of the firm's commitment to our people: at Berwin Leighton Paisner everyone has the opportunity to engage in continuous learning.

In order to ensure that our future trainees get the best possible start at the firm we have partnered with the College of Law to create the LPC+ - a tailor-made LPC course designed specifically for BLP.  All of our trainees study at the College’s brand new Corporate Centre at Moorgate. We were the first City firm of this size to develop its own LPC course and are very excited about the benefits that it will bring.

The Moorgate Centre is the first City-based law school entirely devoted to training City lawyers. BLP students study the general part of the course with other corporate students for the first half of the year and then team together to study the LPC+, a tailored elective course which has been created to reflect the work that our trainees will actually be doing when they join BLP. The focus of the electives is on the Corporate, Finance, and Property areas of a City practice.

The College of Law tutors are joined by BLP lawyers and trainers who will help to deliver some of the legal and skills sessions which will use BLP precedents and documents, discussing real cases and transactions.

Therefore when trainees start a Training Contract with us they will have:

  • an enhanced standard and consistency of legal understanding;
  • studied a course that accurately reflects the spread, and depth, of our work;
  • a clearer understanding of how theory is applied in practice, looking at real, current deals and transactions
  • increased links between trainees and the firm at an earlier stage – taking away that daunting first day!
  • got to know the other trainees before starting.

Training Contract

When trainees join us, the supportive approach continues with a comprehensive induction programme, before embarking on four six month seats which develop, utilise and improve your skills in many different ways.

There are many seat options to select from and we always pause and listen to what each trainee wants.  Client secondments are a popular choice and trainees also have the opportunity to experience a seat in our Brussels office.
