Sidney Myers to head BLP’s Financial Services Regulatory Practice

21 July 2008

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is delighted to announce that it has appointed Sidney Myers to head up its fast growing and highly regarded Financial Services practice. Sidney will join BLP on 1 January 2009 from Allen & Overy where he has been a partner since 1991. He  is currently head of the Allen & Overy’s Regulatory Investigations Group.

Sidney has a pre-eminent reputation and is one of the most experienced and respected practitioners in the contentious financial services sector.  He has handled some of the largest regulatory investigations over the last decade, and his leading reputation in the field led to his appointment to the FSA Lawyers Consultative Group and the Advisory Board of the Financial Services Lawyers Association.  He is described by Chambers as “one of the few big names in the business” and by Legal 500 as an “outstanding talent”

BLP set about expanding its financial services team some time ago and has made a number of other high profile hires in this area over the last two years.  Partners in the team include highly ranked individuals such as Jonathan Marsh on the advisory side, Nathan Willmott on FSA investigations and enforcement, Pollyanna Deane, who is an insurance specialist, and David Hughes and Segun Osuntoken who are banking and financial services litigators.

John Bennett, BLP’s Head of Corporate, said: “Financial regulation and the reputational damage which can be caused by regulatory failures are business critical issues for our financial services clients.  Over the last few years we have been building a premier league team in this area.  Bringing Sidney on board is an important step in this process.”

Sidney added: “My new role will provide me a great opportunity to build on the breadth of contentious and non-contentious financial regulatory experience which already exists in the firm and to work with a hugely talented team.  I’m really excited by this move.”
