CASE STUDY ONE:
LAWYER ASSIGNED TO MOBILE NETWORK PROVIDER'S CONTENT TEAM
Client: We were asked by the client to support them in content licensing matters for a special project. As a result of other work and staff departures, the client did not have an in-house lawyer which it was able to assign to the project and work alongside external lawyers. BLP offered a candidate from the Lawyers on Demand pool to work in-house supported by BLP knowledge management, training and technology. This assignment was ultimately extended for a period of 12 months.
"[The lawyer] has been a great asset and has been highly rated by his internal clients. I'd like to thank you for finding us a great lawyer." Director of Corporate Legal Services
Lawyer: As well as nine years as a TMT lawyer in City firms, he has previously worked as a writer and presenter for Legal Network Television and acted as a PSL. Lawyers on Demand offered him the opportunity to combine his legal career with a passion for filmmaking and an early-stage startup business.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Lawyers on Demand programme. I was immediately offered an assignment ideally suited to my experience and interests, and which fitted in with my other commitments, and this has provided the opportunity to be involved in innovative and exciting projects, working directly day to day with the client. Lawyers on Demand offers a unique opportunity to practise law in-house with the back up of a City firm, and on terms that allow pursuit of other projects".
CASE STUDY TWO:
LAWYER ASSIGNED TO SOFTWARE PROVIDER TO SUPPORT ITS FINANCIAL SERVICES GROUP
Client: We offered the services of the lawyer to provide support to an under-resourced department at a leading global software and services provider, supported by BLP knowledge management, training and technology. This assignment was ultimately extended for a period of nine months.
"I can understand how popular your pool of lawyers must be. I think you can take it as a ringing endorsement of the scheme that you have us coming back for seconds!" General Counsel
Lawyer: The most junior of our Lawyers on Demand and one of two former employees who returned to BLP as a result of the programme. In 2004, after three years' PQE with BLP’s IP group, she decided to leave the firm to pursue her acting career. Although she carried out some legal consulting work after that period, it was not until she found the Lawyers on Demand programme that she was able to find a balance between her legal career and acting work.
"The elements of being a lawyer which I didn't enjoy have been removed. I enjoy my legal career so much more now that I have the flexibility to also pursue my passion for acting. The support offered by BLP has allowed me to further develop my own legal skills in a comfortable and dynamic environment. It has also provided the client with access through me to an online knowledge management resource which is used across the in-house team."
