Work in Water

We acted for Macquarie Bank on its disposal of South East Water, the UK’s second-largest water-only utility, to Hastings Fund Management, an Australian infrastructure and alternative investment fund for £665.4m.

Advised the board of Thames Water on the sale from German utilities group RWE to Macquarie Bank. Thames Water was valued at £8bn.  We have also advised Thames Water on their framework arrangements with consultants and contractors for their next five-year asset management programme (AMP 4).

We advised the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company S.A.O.C and Electricity Holding Company SAOC (acting on behalf of the Ministry of National Economy of the Sultanate of Oman) in respect of the Barka II IWPP that was combined with the privatisation of Al-Rusail Power Company SAOC.

Helped Sutton and East Surrey Water become the first water company to successfully apply for a drought order in 11 years. The order, which was granted by Environment Minister Ian Pearson, followed an application by Sutton and East Surrey Water and a public hearing before an independent inspector. BLP assisted the company with regard to both the application and the hearing. The order enabled the company to prohibit non-essential uses of water in its region.

We are advising the Government of Oman in respect of the upcoming Barka IWPP (which will be the first Oman IWPP to involve the transfer of existing assets). Our appointment is wide-ranging and includes identification of power and water requirements in the north, selection of the site for the project, acquisition options and the appointment of a developer.
