Licensing

Our highly recommended licensing team, the largest of any UK firm, has the skill and depth to exceed client expectations, and as such has kept the top spot in the legal directories for several years. The team advises clients on new legislations and remains at the forefront of legal developments.

We undertake a large amount of liquor and public entertainment licensing work for high profile national chains and large multi-national leisure operators. We work closely with our real estate and corporate colleagues and advise property owners, developers and investors on the licensing implications of business investments, lending and development. In relation to due diligence work we have advised lenders, purchasers, and vendors on the licensing aspects involved with refinancing and M & A work.

We are recognised nationally as having particular expertise in obtaining Late Licences, especially within the London area. We have also been actively involved in challenging the policies of councils by Judicial Review in the High Court on a number of occasions.

One of our strengths lies in the advocacy capabilities of the team who represent clients before licensing tribunals, around the country at all levels, including the Crown Court.

Our clients include Whitbread, Urbium, JD Wetherspoon, Groupe Chez Gerard, Le Meridien Hotel Group, Corney and Barrow Wine Bars, BhS and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
