The firm has a wide range of experience in the defence sector accounting for an increasing amount of work throughout the firm. We act for some of the largest corporate entities in this field, as well as public sector bodies and funders in a range of jurisdictions, this gives us the experience to anticipate and focus on key issues for all parties. We adopt a pragmatic approach and understand issues which may affect the commercial viability of a transaction.
We provide a full range of legal advice to central and local government departments and executive agencies. The firm was recently identified by the NAO as being the leading provider of legal services to government in the survey year.
We understand how government works including the often complex process of agreeing public law policy positions on issues such as innovative procurement structures, TUPE, nuclear licensing, export credit licences, state aid etc.
We are a committed member of the UK Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA) and fully support its committees and co-sponsor industry events. We believe we are unique in the level of resources we commit in order to gain a greater understanding of the defence industry including attendance at MoD Industry Days and visits to IPT leaders which serve to enrich and update our knowledge of all defence issues.
We are hosting our third season of defence industry breakfast meetings featuring high profile speakers from the defence sector. We also brief our defence clients and contacts with our defence briefing.
Our experience includes advising on partnering and alliancing structures for both private and public sector clients. We advised Lex (now part of RAC plc) on its £500m contract to supply the total Whitefleet requirement. We also advised A.W.S.R. Shipping Limited on its successful involvement in the Strategic Sealift Service Project, for the supply of Ro Ro ferries to the Ministry of Defence, a deal worth £950m. We are currently advising private sector clients on a variety of defence projects including, UKMFTS, Watchkeeper, Project MoDEL, FSTA and the MARS project.
